Imam Ja’far al-Sadiq is both a Hussaini & Hasani, as well as Siddiqi. His father Imam Muhammed al-Baqir is both a Hussaini & Hasani from the progeny of the Messenger of Allah, Muhammad (PBUH) and his mother, Fatima bint al-Qasim also known as Umm Farwa descends from Abu Bakr Siddiq, the first Caliph (Khalifa) of Islam, through his son Muhammed Bin Abu Bakr.

Al-Qasim ibn Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr, a grandson of Abu Bakr, was married to his cousin Asma bint Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Bakr, a granddaughter of Abu Bakr. Together, they had a daughter named Fatima bint al-Qasim. Umm Farwa, was thus a great-granddaughter of Abu Bakr—twice over.

Her father, Al-Qasim, was a respected Islamic jurist. Aisha lived until old age and taught her nephew Qasim ibn Muhammad ibn Abi Bakr. Many Hadith are quoted through Qasim. He learned hadith and fiqh from his aunt and from Ibn Abbas. He was a transmitter of hadith.

Umm Farwa is notable in Islamic history for her deep knowledge and scholarship. She is recognized among the Imamiyyat—the women of the Ahl al-Bayt and the companions of the Imams—and is known to have narrated hadiths from Imam Ali ibn Husayn Zayn al-Abidin.

Al-Sadiq’, meaning ‘The Truthful‘ is attributed to Imam Ja’far because of his steadfastness upon the truth. He was the greatest Islamic scholar of the time, and was very well versed in the academic world as well. He was a great scientist, a great philosopher, a great economist, a great alchemy, a great mathematician, a great anatomist, a great astronomist, he was actually the greatest in every field of science.

According to historical facts, he was the first person to figure out that the world was rather round than flat. Imam Abu Hanifa and Imam Malik, founders of the two Sunni schools, were students of Imam Ja’far al-Sadiq as well as of his father, Imam Muhammed al-Baqir.

Jabir Bin Hayyan, his another student, became the founder of Algebra in Mathematics. ‘Algebra‘ is actually derived from the name ‘Jabir‘. Jabir Bin Hayyan is famously known in Europe and United States as Geber.

The world benefitted from this Imam of exalted memory as he was an educator for many of the scholars of Islam as well as the preserver of the Sunnah of his great-grandfather the Messenger of Allah, Muhammad (PBUH).

I might take a look at all these family trees. Unfortunately, my memory is not what it used to be.
